I had so much fun today sorting through my personal collection of English Multicolor Sea Glass.

These pieces are works of art in themselves and I often can get distracted for hours just looking at them and holding them up to the light.

Seaham Multi sea glass is a result of colored glass accidentally getting combined in coloring crucible at an art glass factory. They were then discarded into the local rivers and sea. now they wash up on shorelines surrounding this tiny hamlet in England.

How did they come about?

Well in glass making, raw molten glass is combined with various minerals to achieve different colors. For Instance Cobalt glass uses Oxide Blue-Violet, Chromic Oxide for Emerald Green glass, Gold Chloride for Red. (for more info on glass colors, see http://geology.com/articles/color-in-glass.shtml) A coloring crucible or large vat is used to combine the flowing glass with the coloring agent. It gets built up on the sides, cools and then the crucible is cleaned an "waste" discarded. In this case, into the North Sea.

There are other types of "Art Sea Glass" both from this location and from 2 or 3 others around the world making it precious and rare. The other types of mixed color sea glass from Seaham include Pontil Pieces and flash glass (used in windows in England).

We are proud to be the first artist in American to acquire and work with these unaltered natural sea glass gems and maintain the largest collection outside of the UK. If you would like to see some of our jewelry made from these lovelies, check out our website for English Sea Glass Jewelry.

I am sure everyone has their favorite beach. Here are CNN's top 22. Though they missed some of my favorite sandy spots, this is a nice collection of beach locations.

My personal favorite beaches are Ocracoke, South Nags Head, Pea Island on Hatteras Island,Sebastian Inlet Beaches and Siesta Key Beach. All but Siesta beach are remarkably not overdeveloped. These beaches either restrict building heights or are mostly wild with an abundance of sea oats, sea glass and pure heaven!.

I guess I like the uncrowded areas as walking on the beach to me is a solitary pastime. Even if there is no sea glass to be found, the silence and serene beauty of an unpopulated beach is like going to church.By The Sea Jewelryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16199385031162085808noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-658331294200237698.post-16418336384902962392013-08-03T13:24:00.001-04:002015-09-06T16:32:07.459-04:00Our Studio

Sea Glass is for Lovers.....

We have been busy the last few weeks creating new sea glass jewelry for Valentines day.

Some of the pieces we have added are natural unaltered sea glass pieces in the shape of a heart.

Pictured right is a green sea glass heart set in fine sterling and silver. The heart cut out from the back of the silver backplate emphasizes the heart even more!

This piece is available on our site today, but these unique pieces tend to sell quickly.

Heart shaped sea glass is an unusual find. Though many sea glass shards are found in a triangular shape, the heart pieces are much rarer.

How is the heart shape formed naturally?

Hearts

If you have ever broken a bottle or window, remember how the point of impact radiated out through the glass. This is the origin of the triangular shape that much sea glass has. The formation of a heart shaped piece is totally random, and is where part of the top gets chipped out them smoothed by the sea.

Since we do not alter our sea glass in anyway, it can take going through 1000's of pieces of sea glass to find a single heart. Some heart pieces need a bit of imagination to see the heart shape, while others are very distinct.
Over the years we have had so many incidents copying our site content, ideas and designs that just defending it could be a full time job in itself.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Though we are aggressive in confronting those individuals that copy our content and most everyone had been accommodating about removing copied content or designs.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">When I helped to write the NASGA code of ethics, I thought that it would provide at least a little protection for competitors who had also joined the group. This has proven not to be the case. In my defense to some recent attacks, I am posting this on my blog.(Ironically only 1 week after posting this blog, I received notice from the NASGA that the Code Of Ethics Statement had been totally removed and combined in a streamlined mission statement with no reference to honoring trademarks, intellectual property etc....)
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">SO - For the Record......

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We have been online for over 20 years, first as a HTML site that I made myself and that was hosted not under our current domain name but on our providers free website area....We operated at that time as By The Sea Jewelry and have been for 18 years.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The Internet was young back then so it took me hundreds of hours to hone the site, meta tags, content to get listed in the search engines...Funny enough, the site back then, no longer in existence, that always ranked above me was a slow loading homemade site as well and it frustrated me that it kept getting ranked higher as there was no content to speak of.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Genuine Sea Glass
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We have been using Genuine Sea Glass as a trademark in use or TM (a Legal Definition defined by the USTPO as an unregistered mark.) Unregistered trademarks OR trademarks in use are used widely in business everywhere - See Wikiapedia for general definition or the USTPO site which starts as "Do you need to register a trademark - NO...) .
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Since we do not have the time or resources to defend each incident of using this unregistered mark in court, we changed our phrase to Certified Genuine Sea Glass, we are currently working on registering this mark as to protect our interests.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Many other professional sites respectfully use instead of our TM use, Natural, Authentic, Real, Found, etc.....or variations thereof. We thank them for their respect for our intellectual property!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Recently the DMCA DIGITAL MILLENNIUM COPYRIGHT ACT, protects photos, designs and content.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Several companies have actually copied out EXACT meta tags, descriptions and keywords so much so that they still have By The Sea, in their keywords. Over time, I developed my meta tags and static site pages and was finally listed as one of the top sites under our search terms......this made us a target for new sites coming online....Thankfully, most search engines no longer use these tags to rank a site.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The tag line Sea Glass Jewelry (seaglass jewelry) or beach glass jewelry (beachglass jewelry) from By The Sea Jewelry combines Genuine Sea Glass TM (natural found sea glass) ,,,etc....was soon copied by MANY and can still be seen as a influence on many other sea glass sites.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We were also the first page to have a "What is Sea Glass" page from Dec 1999, which can now be seen on just about every other sea glass site online. This too has been a target of copy, in part and in whole.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The oldest online cache of this page which dates back to April 2000 can be seen at http://web.archive.org/web/20001215121800/www.bytheseajewelry.com/glass.htm
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The page above also shows a design/technique design that we originated and that has never appeared in an instructional magazine or book and which we have had copied by competitors. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This "artist" above has also recently used some terms and phrases on her redesigned site that are ORIGINAL to our site. Our saying "Sea glass is just glass like Diamonds are just rocks", She says on her site "Sea glass is just glass like other gemstones are just rocks! " Well if changing ONE WORD is original, well I give up!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">What many people do not realize is that copying content from a similar site will hurt you in SEO results. Since our site is older than any other and our content is indeed Original, their use of our work actually HURTS only them!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">UPDATE 6/2014- This artist NOW CLAIMS to have come up with the term Ultra Rare Sea Glass. It is funny since she has only been online since 2009 and we started using the term in 2006. Ironically too, she uses similar herbage to our page Genuine Sea Glass. We say:
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Genuine Sea Glass is a term that
I starting using in 1992 when By The Sea Jewelry first went online. Now
used widely, it has become the standard term to indicate that sea glass
is natural found glass just the way it was picked up from the beach.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">She says of Ultra Rare :
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">"Ultra
Rare" sea glass is a term that I came up with to define these colorful
pieces of very rare sea glass from England. The term "Ultra Rare" is
now widely used in the sea glass community but when I first started
making sea glass jewelry many people were referring to it as "End of
Day" sea glass or "Flash Glass".
making sea glass jewelry many people were referring to it as "End of
Day" sea glass or "Flash Glass", but on her 2009 page she has this info SHE IN FACT was referring to it as Flash Glass! The fact her domain was only started in 2008 so it is a miracle that she was could have INVENTED this term before we did!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Sadly she has copied designs from so many other sea glass artists I am sure that I am not the only person in the community who feels this way about this person.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Most of this post is meant mainly to counter attacks made by ONE individual concerning my reputation, legal rights, integrity and standing in the sea glass community. I hope that this post helps to clear up the disinformation that she has posted online. All 3 of the examples above are members of her social sea glass community. She continually uses her community to blast me and encourage her minions to copy my designs, work and intellectual property.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A year or so ago she actually emailed an artist and show promoter blasting me. The artist she contacted had no idea there even was a sea glass community or association. I contacted the other board members about this, wishing to put this libelous attack on the record for legal reasons......Several days later she "resigned" her position on the Board of the NASGA. The ONLY reason she has not been sued is that I do not wish to bring in an artist that had no idea what this "person" was talking about, nor the issues or history of the events.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">UPDATE 4/15- Her machinations continue. Though I have had NO CONTACT with her for over 7 years, she continues to attack and create these dramas where I am the "bad guy" and she is the "target". It seems to be something every month!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Most recently I received 2 emails from her about my social site. She directed me to a comment where an SGL member in England had said she was so mad at someone (no names or references mentioned) that if this person showed up at this show in England, she would "pull her over the table"

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I received the following......

It has been brought to my attention that a member on seaglasslovers has threatened me with physical harm. A member named "Donna"said this in one of her recent posts "I will drag her over my
table." Although she does not mention my name you and I both know she is
talking about me. What is just as disturbing is that your moderator
seems to have no problem with a physical threat being made towards me on
your Ning site. In fact your moderator eggs her on! I take threats of
violence very seriously and will be following this up with our local
sheriff's office. I not only fear Donna physically but I fear that she
will excite an unbalanced person to seek me out for the purposes of
doing me harm. If anyone on my Ning were to threaten you or anyone this
way I would inform you/the person being threatened, report them to Ning,
suspend them and keep records of the event. Physical threats are not a
minor issue and should be taken seriously. I find it to be very
disturbing and frightening that physical threats towards me are being
entertained on your Ning site. I certainly hope that you will do the
right thing and remove comments that express physical threats towards
myself or anyone else! How would you feel if an unbalanced person became
inspired by a discussion on your Ning site and then brought physical
harm upon myself or my family?

Thanks In advance For Your Cooperation,
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">AND...........BTW, this is a community that the above letter writer is NOT a member. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The post was quickly deleted and the admin did not "egg her on". She only said, "wow you are really mad". This recent machination how now found its way on her social site......and on her Facebook social group. I quote from her "rules"

party. If I find out that Jane Doe punched or physically threatened John
Doe at someone else's party last week then I don't want Jane Doe at my
party. Not only don't I want Jane Doe I don't want the people that
cheered her on at my party. People that have been involved with online
threats of violence are not welcome here.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I really think she must have majored in drama to get so much mileage out of this.<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I mean really, she is going to call her sheriff because some random person in England made a comment about an anonymous person on a private social site. It is crazy folks!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">But I truly feel sorry for her. I truly DO!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Ironically - One of the reasons that I distanced myself as a board member of the NASGA when my term was still active was that an officer of the group had made a very nasty rude comment about this person in an email. I knew there had been a lot of backroom talking in the group, but after reading the comment, felt like I was back in high school and decided to not participate as a board member any longer. My husband took over my board responsibilities until my term had ended.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Frankly I never liked girls like these when I was was in grade school, I do not like cliques or sophomoric behavior of adults.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I do not respond directly to this "person" as I have been advised by legal council that it would be unwise, though I want it to be part of the permanent public record the extremes this person has gone to.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The list is long when it comes to this "person" targeting me and my reputation. AND.............It has been relentless. She has sent her minions to my art shows, tried to ruin my personal and professional reputation in the art show community, systematically trashes me on her social site, and this all continues after I have had NO CONTACT with her, and have NEVER met her. She should be reminded that anything ever posted online is retrievable, even if it has been deleted.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Just a few examples...

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">SHE SAID - She goes into a rant on her site and Facebook that jewelers that use starfish, shells and sandollars are killing the oceans one week after I start selling lockets with these materials<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span data-mce-style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;" style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">..

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">FACT - In fact, these products a a by-catch of the commercial fishing and aquaculture industry.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">SHE SAID - I never use glue in my jewelry and that jewelers that do should disclose that it will eventually fall apart.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">FACT - We have sold over $100,000 of jewelry using glue to set these pieces. NOT ONE has ever been returned for this reason. In fact, many master gold and silver smiths use epoxy in their designs. A mutual acquaintance that I made a piece for ripped hers apart because she was made at me!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">SHE SAYS - There is no such thing as Certified Sea Glass.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">FACT - I base all the certifications I give with my jewelry based on almost 30 years of experience, research and knowledge. I have never said in was "certified" by the NASGA.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">SHE SAYS - I do not pay for social likes promoting a false popularity, I find it tedious and b oring.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">FACT - I do and consider this not promoting popularity but simply Marketing.....Here in the grownup world it is called Business! That is the way this person's mind works. It is all about "popularity". Unfortunately we do not have a trust fund so we must advertise and and work to make a living! You can't be a full time artist and take several months off a year. I never ever asked the 10,000 members on our sea glass social site to LIKE my facebook page either!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">THESE ARE JUST A FEW EXAMPLES LIST GOES ON AND ON AND IT SEEMS TO BE SOMETHING NEW EVERY MONTH!

You see they were a group of lifelong friends that were celebrating a "50" party.....All having turned 50 years young in the last year. Most had been friends since childhood with newer ones coming aboard as school and college years came and went, but they were a group of steadfast friends that had shared births, deaths, marriages divorces,,,,,,the group numbered over 10! I thought of how lucky they were to have had so may friends for so many years. The Aqua Earring Sea Glass Lovely Lady who had lead them there soon appeared sporting her new earrings and beaming.......My hubby commented with a Billy Crystal type comment (meant with all good intentions) of "You Look Fabulous", or Beautiful or something liked that...He later mentioned that he saw her tear up when he said this and that he was a bit stunned..... thinking he may have said something wrong............

I Came to find out from her friend that she had indeed lost her husband in the 9/11 attract on the Pentagon in Washington. A career officer serving his country - at last from a desk and no longer in combat (ironically his wife probably worried more about his commute to the office)... he was instantly killed when the plane hit the pentagon on that clear and lovely September morning,,, leaving our lovely aqua sea glass lady husband-less and his 3 children fatherless.......Forever! The tear my hubby witnessed may have been from a line her hubby said to her or just the sheer fact a man was saying she looked lovely,,,,,,but as a stalwart man on hearing my recount, my Jim was moved to tears as well.On hearing this I was immediately broke to tears and confided in her friend that I was glad her friend did not share it directly as I would have broke down and cried like a baby......she said that her friend had come back so thrilled and happy with her aqua and end of day jewelry purchase that they all were moved to come and get a piece of their own....

The Second Encounter - Later in the day when we were slowly closing down and I stopped to talk to the "famous" Chicken Lady,,,, an artist that features colorful graphic chickens in her large scale paintings...... I had stopped by her booth many times to admire her vivid and moving work and never questioned just why I liked it so much... It was BOLD, Inventive, totally different, but there was some other quality that attracted me to the paintings....

On this casual trip I noticed that she had posted a calligraphy framed explanation titled "Why Do You Paint Chickens"...on reading it I was moved again to tears for the 2nd time that day...I cannot recall the EXACT words.

After a failed marriage, careers and the loss of her most favorite person in the world, her older cousin (whom she had always aspired to be) along with 2 other cousins in an 18 wheeler accident that tragically took all their lives. , she found herself wallowing at her South Carolina country home, stomping the ground, crying to the heavens about how horrible everything was, how unfair to have her cousins taken so short of a full life, why didn't god take her instead of her wonderful exuberant favorite cousin, commiserating in her failed marriage, overweight, miserable, she said she stomped the red clay ground asking why were things so unfair and asking the heaven's what to do,tears streaming down her face she heard CLEARLY in her head, "Why not paint chickens?????"..............dumbfounded,,,, and doubting her own sanity, she glanced around at her Guinea hens all staring at her in her tirade,,, and the only thing she could think of was,,, "WHY NOT"...............

Believe it or not this began a new career of painting marvelous, whimsical yet, somehow serious chicken paintings...She has been featured in Southern Living several times, won numerous awards, and is a delight to share time with...The thing that really stuck with me is she told me she put that sign up because people continuously asked her "WHY DO YOU PAINT CHICKENS?.............", she turned to me after recounted all of this very personal, very emotional history and said, you know every artist has a reason why they do what they do",,,,,Why do you work with Sea Glass?"................HUM, I thought,,, Why do I work with sea glass.............I mean it has been a good 18 years and thousands of pounds what seems like a million pieces made and sold, but have I ever bothered to ask myself why,,,,,,,,,????????I thought for a moment and answered with something like,,, Well, I was attracted to sea glass because it was something that people had discarded, something left for trash, that time and nature made into something beautiful... I have always been attracted to found object art whether it was sculptural metal from junkyards, or otherwise.......And then I remembered my 9/11 Aqua sea glass lovely lady that lite up so much upon being complimented on her earrings..."well I said, though I am a bit jaded to sea glass having acquired so much of it and sold it for so long, I still see how it effects people,,,,,,,,,,,,, now granted I am not "new agey" in any way, but something about sea glass sooths people, and I am glad I can pass that along...Well, I was stunned with my eloquence, but thought of these 2 encounters on the 1100 mile trip all the way home. One woman who lite up brighter than the aqua sea glass she had purchased from me and one that asked my "Why"... When I first heard the weather report, I was thrilled, hard North East winds for the weekend we arrived which usually means GREAT sea glassing once the ocean calms down.

Well, the ocean NEVER did calm down. An unnamed storm hit the OBX and slammed it for the entire week.

Generally, 2-3 days after a "typical" Nor Easter (named for North Easterly Winds) the sea glassing can be AWESOME. Sloughs that collected quartz pebbles get pushed up on the beach once the wind calms down and this is where the most amount of sea glass can be found.

Many times there can be several lines pebbles, a high high tide, a low high tide and another line right where the waves are currently breaking. The High high tide line brings the larger pieces of glass as it was deposited when the waves where at their strongest. This line also has large driftwood and even baseball size quartz stones. The other lines have jewelry size pieces.

In some areas like South Nags Head, the pebble lines can run up and down the beach instead of parallel to the shoreline and these lines can also be great for finding sea glass. This also will give you plenty of exercise as you may walk 10 times the distance going up and down the pebble lines.

This unnamed storm brought a lot of havoc to the beach in the time we were there destroying dunes, beach steps and closing Route 12 to Hatteras Island and Rodanthe on times of high tide. Blowing sand was so bad the worst day of the storm that it looked like the Sahara south the Oregon Inlet Bridge.

The new movie Nights In Rodanthe (starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere and filmed in Rodanthe around the first house in town,Serendipity) had a huge premier and opening parties on Thursday that many Hatteras Island residnets could not attend. Many of which were in the movie.

OBX'ers are well acquainted with Noreasters but the tourists we spoke to were quite panicked and many went home early.

We did manage to find a couple of pieces before the storm got going and we did find a piece that was unlike any that I had ever found in 20 years of sea glass collecting on the Banks. It was a thin piece of flash glass, with milk white and clear and was most likely a cherished house ware item that had been broken many many years ago.

This week (last week of September and first week of October) should be EPIC for finding sea glass on the OBX beaches as well as phenomenal surfing and fishing.

A couple of notes to visitors to the Outer Banks:

Please PLEASE, do not walk or play on the dunes. These are our last line of defense against the sea! I have actually seen kids boogie boarding down dunes and this destroys them and then our homes ocean side.

NO SWIMMING FLAGS

PLEASE, if the red flags are out, DONT SWIM.

On a walk down to Gary Olivers Fishing Unlimited pier on the worst day of the storm, we actually saw children jumping in the waves that were coming right up to the dunes. It only takes ONE wave to carry a child into the surf and to an inevitable drowning. Also there is tons of debris when are storm of this magnitude happens. Parts of stairs and piers with nails, sand fending Etc.... (Pictured above, 3 children play in massive tide as parents look on, notice the BRIGHT RED NO SWIMMING flags above them.

Folks, the towns do not post these flags to ruin your vacation but to protect your life! Our sea glass originated as bottles and jars, broken up and tumbled over many years by the surf and sand. English sea glass was never made into a product and was slag or End Of Day glass dumped into the sea from a coastal glass factory. This glass dates back to the Victorian era and has some of the most unique colors you will ever see in sea glass.By The Sea Jewelryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16199385031162085808noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-658331294200237698.post-85326218456560947842008-03-15T18:28:00.000-04:002008-08-17T13:23:10.560-04:00In Business, Creating Sustainable Enterprises & CommunitiesIn Business, Creating Sustainable Enterprises & CommunitiesBy The Sea Jewelryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16199385031162085808noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-658331294200237698.post-1384958899517803742008-03-08T11:32:00.000-05:002008-10-13T13:38:25.779-04:00New Additons To Our Site

We have just updated some of our long standing sea glass INFO pages with new photos and info on sea glass and sea glass collecting.

Pictured Left

Our Sea Glass Color Wheel ©1994 Linda Jereb

The Glass Section

NEW Colors Of Sea Glass - New pixs and info on different sea glass colors, more to come in the spring!

NEW Valuing Sea Glass - Brand NEW page on how to value sea glass!

NEW Vote For Your Favorite Piece! - Great new samples of some of the rarest sea glass in the world, Vote for your favorite piece!

NEW Sea Glass Ideas - Some great ideas on how to use your sea glass and how to display it in your home.
By The Sea Jewelryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16199385031162085808noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-658331294200237698.post-18873864497709130282008-01-28T17:29:00.000-05:002008-01-28T18:03:15.273-05:00Genuine Sea Glass TM Genuine Sea Glass TM is a term that I starting using in 1990 when By The Sea Jewelry first went online. It has become the standard term to indicate that sea glass is natural found glass just the way it was picked up from the beach. Other terms include, natural sea glass, real sea glass, found sea glass, pure sea glass, true sea glass, unaltered sea glass, well,,,,,,,you get the idea.

Pictured - A rare piece of English Sea Glass that was once a pontil rod. Pontil Rods are glass rods used to turn glass in a kiln. They are usually discarded, in this case, into the sea. This piece is quite rare as most pontil rods are less expensive colors of glass(like white).

By The Sea Jewelry prides itself on offering some of the finest sea glass from around the world!

Genuine Sea Glass TM (or whatever term you use) means the glass in your jewelry is unaltered from the way it was found on the beach (uncut or tumbled by any artificial means). Real natural sea glass comes from old bottles, jars and other glass items that have been discarded in the ocean and tumbled naturally by waves and sand over many years. It can take many decades for sea glass to be formed.

By The Sea Jewelry is proud to offer some of the rarest sea glass pieces available for public sale.

Genuine Sea Glass TM (natural sea glass) has many characteristics man made glass cannot duplicate.
